Super Soldiers

Body armor saves lives. While troops today are better protected than ever, there are still opportunities to improve some of the shortcomings that exist. Our research emphasized looking at emerging technologies as one solution, so the illustration style naturally called for a futuristic, techy feel. Instead of using traditional military colors like greens, navy, and brown, I chose lighter, sunset-esque hues emphasizing that these technologies are on the horizon. I drew inspiration from robotics and extra cool motorcycle helmets to increase the futuristic vibe. Lastly, the researchers wanted to create a virtual feel as more and more systems are enabling soldiers to do their jobs remotely. I illustrated this by placing the helmet in a sphere and adding various linework and pattern lines moving outward to depict remote surveillance.
